Cass was born in northern Virginia, but spent her 20s doing a lot of traveling.  Having had a long-standing appreciation for Japanese culture and art, she took many trips to Tokyo, and has visited all four of the country's main islands, as well as locations in Okinawa.  Upon discovering the art of tsumami kanzashi, she knew she needed to try it for herself.

Having struggled with depression and ADHD since her teenage years, Cass found that working on kanzashi helped with these conditions quite a bit.  The meticulous and repetitive nature of folding the petals is calming, and alleviates a lot of anxiety issues as well as making good use of those trying periods of hyperfocus.

Today, Cass lives in northwestern Florida with her two cats, and makes kanzashi to help supplement her income, via Patreon pledges and by taking commissions.  Her goal is to help spread awareness of this beautiful art, and to donate some of the money her work generates to animal welfare causes across the US.
