Available Fabrics

Kanzashi can be made from just about any type of foldable fabric, most often ribbon, as it is already cut to a small size.  I offer several fabric options for the kanzashi I make; if you're interested in a fabric type that I don't show as available, please feel free to get in touch and I'll see about adding it to my repertoire!

Any of these can be mixed and matched together, so don't feel like you have to go all or nothing!

Satin/Nylon Ribbon

ribsat.jpg

The easiest and most economical to work with, this ribbon fabric is available in just about any solid color imaginable, as well as some patterns such as paisley, stripes, or spots.

Currently Available Options

Colors, patterns, and textures may vary from photographs due to lighting conditions and monitor settings.  Available patterns/prints will be updated as they are stocked, and are often very limited.  Some prints are obtained from rare and vintage stock and cannot be replaced; there is no guarantee that something will be available again in the future, so if you see something you like, please make your request promptly!

ANY BASIC SOLID COLOR IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE.  The slideshow below is just for special patterns or options.

Grosgrain Ribbon

A slightly heavier fabric than standard satin ribbon, this ribbon has a corduroy-like ribbing to it, and can hold shapes very well.  It can also be dyed in a gradient or painted with designs.  It is available in most colors, and some patterns.  This ribbon style costs a bit more, as it is thicker and a bit harder to work with.

Specialty Ribbon

These ribbons are either imported, very limited stock, or difficult to work with, and are therefore in their own category, and cost more to include.

Other Fabrics

Just what it says on the tin: any foldable fabric can be made into kanzashi, incuding your standard fabrics that come on bolts.  Prices will vary depending on thickness, rarity, and availability, but these fabrics will always cost a bit more than ribbon, and are listed here in approximate lowest to highest cost.

These are just the fabrics I currently have on-hand, but if there's a fabric you've seen that you're dying to wear in kanzashi form, or even if you just have a vague idea of a print that you'd like, please don't hesitate to inquire and I'll see what I can find!  Any of these fabrics can be mixed and matched with any other fabric and/or ribbons.

Talk Wordy to Me

These two cotton prints feature script writing in French on a grey-white background, or scrawly signatures and passport stamps on a grey background.  Perfect for the lexophile, librarian,  or world traveler in your life.

The Fabric of Our Lives

Various other cottons I have on-hand.  Black with flowers and vines; pink grapefruit; cloisonné blue flowers, earthy jungle; maroon paisley.

yukata.jpg

Yukata Be Kidding Me

Genuine yukata cotton purchased from a craft vendor in Kagoshima, Japan, these remnants were left over after several beautiful summer yukata were made.  Navy with white flowers; black with sakura, sea green cloisonné; purple with flowers; pink and blue on olive.  These CANNOT BE RESTOCKED, so once they're gone, they're gone.

habotai.jpg

Habotai Silk

Hand dyed, these beautiful silks are very old and extremely delicate.  I have three colors available: orange nebula, mermaid, and purple iris.

Vintage Kimono Silks

Real kimono silk imported from Japan, these are all vintage, one of a kind remnants.  I will try to always have kimono silk available for commissions, but once a certain color or style has been sold out, it can never be restocked.  I have enough of each of these to probably make three or four kanzashi, depending on the size and quantity of petals requested.

Au Naturale

Earthtones and natural colors: pink and white sakura, olive khaki with cloudy embossing, leaves in sunset orange.

silkdark.jpg

Black and Blue

Darker colors with and without contrasting print: black with red iris, black with plum blossoms and chrysanthemum, azure with embossed flowers, sapphire blue.

silkpinks.jpg

Tickle Me Pink

Pink shades, for the romantics: embossed peach pink, shimmer pale pink with leaves, dark mauve with embroidery, pink with black scatter.  (The embossing is difficult to see on the peachy one, it's a very subtle geometric lines pattern.)

Formerly Known as Prints

Silks with all-over prints: black with reeds, cream with nature scenes, eggshell with leaves, blue with grey pattern.
